It is clearly a public space.

Outside Korea, the term social media is used more often than SNS, and some Korean media outlets also use the term social relationship network service.

SNS Terms

  • Friend

    • Friend, neighbor
    • This means registering the “person” themself.

  • Follow

    • A follow is different from adding a friend. It registers the person’s “Twitter statements” rather than the person or user themself.
    • In other words, you can think of it as adding the “content” contained in the statement itself.
    • You can think of it as adding the “content” contained in the statement itself.
    • It is similar to subscribing by RSS to newspaper articles, news, or blog posts that you like.

  • Following

    • People I subscribe to.
    • In English, following refers to followers or people being followed depending on context.

  • Follower

    • People who subscribe to me.
    • In English, follower means a person who follows.

  • DM

    • Short for Direct Message.
    • A messenger feature used on Instagram and Twitter (similar to text messages or KakaoTalk) that allows you to send messages directly to another person.
    • It is mainly used on Instagram, and on Twitter it is sometimes called a private message.

  • Feed

    • A place where posts you upload and posts from friends, that is, posts you subscribe to, are displayed together.
